Hope goal helps Oldham earn vital points; McCleary, Morias also on target

BROOKLYN, NY– Barbados international Hallam Hope netted his fourth goal of the season to help Oldham Athletic clinch a vital point in their fight against relegation from England’s League Two in a battling 2-2 draw at Crawley Town on Tuesday night.

After 27-year-old striker Hope’s opener into the top corner for the Latics on 56 minutes, two goals in three minutes from Ashley Nadesan put Crawley on course for victory before Frenchman Christopher Missilou struck with 20 minutes remaining after good work by Hope to make it seven games unbeaten underboss John Sheridan.

Oldham remains in the bottom two but has games on four teams just above them.

Reggae Boy Garath McCleary scored his seventh goal and provided an assist as Wycombe Wanderers recorded their first win in eight games in League One with a 3-0 victory over Cambridge United.

McLeary, 34, whose last of 24 appearances for Jamaica came in 2016, scored with a crisp volley on 15 minutes. In the 85th minute, he broke away down the left before squaring the ball for Anis Mehmeti to score his second of the night to give the Chairboys a timely boost by moving back to within one point of the top six.

Jamaican striker Junior Morias netted his fifth goal as Dagenham & Redbridge beat Maidenhead United 3-0 at the Chigwell Construction Stadium. in the fifth-tier National League.

Morias, 26, slotted in a rebound after Dean Rance’s long-range shot was saved 11 minutes before Paul McCallum struck twice just before half-time.

Marcus Browne, 24, of Dominican descent, gave visitors Oxford United a third-minute lead after a break down the Portsmouth right saw him cruise past Sean Raggett and rifle an angled shot into the far corner.

But Portsmouth hit back to beat their fourth-placed opponents 3-2.

Bermuda captain Nahki Wells, 31, gave Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson further reminders of his goal-scoring ability when he took his tally to eight in three appearances for the Championship club’s Under-23s with a brace in a 3-1 win over Cardiff City.

Wells’ appearances in the first team have been limited this season, but he showed all his old sharpness to score twice after the break.

Wells, who has scored only twice for the senior side this term, came on as a 58th-minute substitute on Saturday as City, 17th in the Championship standings, lost 2-0 away to Nottingham Forest.

Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, 17, of Barbadian descent, scored twice, in the 16th and 68th minutes, for Borussia Dortmund’s Under-19s as the German club knocked Manchester United out of the UEFA Youth League 3-1 on penalties after the game ended 2-2.

Bynoe-Gittens also scored the winning penalty as Borussia Dortmund advanced to the quarter-finals for the first time in a tournament that was launched in 2013.
