GUYANA-Health minister elected to head PAHO’s executive committee

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC—Dr. Frank Anthony, Guyana’s health minister, has been elected President of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Executive Committee for one year.

A statement from the Ministry of Health said he was elected during the AHO’s 61st Directing Council meeting, which ended in Washington, D.C., last weekend. He will lead the organization’s mission to improve and safeguard the health and well-being of the people of the Americas.

PAHO’s work spans critical areas such as combating infectious diseases, enhancing health systems, and promoting universal health coverage, particularly in vulnerable communities. The statement quoted Dr Anthony expressing gratitude to PAHO member states for their trust in his leadership.

He reiterated his commitment to enhancing PAHO’s ideals, stressing the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing urgent public health issues, including pandemic preparedness, equitable healthcare access, and health system strengthening.

The statement said that Guyana is confident that his presidency will significantly advance the health priorities of the Americas during this crucial period.
