GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr Ashni Singh, has said that the 2024 budget will reflect an unwavering dedication to the implementation of policies that improve the well-being of the people of Guyana.

In an interview on Saturday, ahead of Monday’s budget presentation to Parliament, Dr. Singh said, “Maintaining high economic growth remains a policy goal for the government, as well as continued strong investments in transformative infrastructure, which is integral to the short and long-term well-being of the country.”

“Everything that we do in our budget revolves around improving the lives of every Guyanese citizen,” Dr. Singh said.

“A more modern and integrated transport network also means an environment that is more conducive to investment because people are better able to set up factories, warehouses, and commercial office spaces because it is easier to do business,” he said.

“What we want to do is to harness and capture this moment of realizing potential national prosperity… But we want that national prosperity to translate into community, household, and individual prosperity.”

“Everything in the budget has to be structured in that frame to show how prosperity can be delivered,” Dr. Singh said.

Without giving details, Dr. Singh said continued investment in social services and support for vulnerable groups will also be embedded in the 2024 budget.

The finance minister said all infrastructural investments – in roads, schools, hospitals, or housing schemes – directly benefit people.

Last year, the finance minister presented a $781.9 billion budget, the first to be partially financed by revenue earned from Guyana’s historic sale of carbon credits, and he has indicated that the trend is set to advance in this year’s budget.
