GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The British Virgin Islands (BVI), home to a sizeable Guyanese diaspora, has sent a 16-member trade mission here to explore trade, investment, and enhanced cooperation with Guyana.

BVI Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Labour, and Trade, Lorna Smith, is leading the delegation that met Monday with Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud, who used the occasion to outline Georgetown’s interest in facilitating investment and closer trade ties. Smith said Guyana and the BVI could collaborate in several areas drawing on each other’s experience and potential.

“I am deeply pleased with the overwhelming turnout from our business community, who are investing substantially to join this inaugural trade mission to Guyana. Their enthusiasm not only underscores the potential of this venture but also their commitment to forging stronger ties within the Caribbean region,” Smith said.

“I am profoundly grateful for the welcoming spirit extended by the Guyanese Government towards our delegation. Their openness and receptivity set a positive tone for our visit and reflect the warm relations between our two countries.”

The trade mission arrived here on Sunday and will end its visit on August 4.
