ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell Friday announced a second, but his first major Cabinet reshuffle since he led the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to victory in the general elections 18 months ago.

Last April, Mitchell, a 45-year-old lawyer, had relieved himself of the economic affairs portfolio and on Friday said he had asked the Governor General to revoke the appointment of Ron Redhead of the Minister of Youth, Sports, and Culture for him to pursue his studies for a Masters Degree.

Among the new ministers is Delma Thomas, who served as social development minister in the New National Party (NNP) that lost the June 2022 general election.

Thomas has had a public fallout with NNP leader and former prime minister Dr. Keith Mitchell. He will now serve as the Minister of Mental Health, Wellness, and Religious Affairs, focusing on the Mount. Gay Psychiatric Hospital.

Prime Minister Mitchell said ‘significant changes have occurred in our government’s leadership with the official reassignment of ministerial portfolios”.

Economic Development Minister Lennox Andrews will now assume the additional portfolios of Minister of Agriculture, Planning, Agriculture and Lands, Forestry, Marine Resources, and Cooperatives. She is replacing Adrian Thomas, the new Minister for Tourism, the Creative Economy, and Culture.

Mitchell said that David Andrew will retain the position of Education Minister, while Gloria Thomas is now the Minister for Social and Community Development, Housing, and Gender Affairs.

Quinc Britto, who failed to win a seat in the general election, is appointed Parliamentary Secretary within the Ministry of Tourism, the Creative Economy, and Culture to assist the Minister for Culture.

The new Minister of Health is Philip Telesford, replacing Jonathan LaCrette, who now holds the Minister for Youth and Sports position.

“These changes signify the Government’s commitment to strategic alignment for better governance and service to our nation,” said Mitchell.

The new appointments became effective as of January 5.
