ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – A 12-member humanitarian medical mission from Palestine has arrived here to offer services at the General Hospital as part of efforts to assist Grenada in achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number three, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages.
Led by the Assistant Minister for International Cooperation, Imad Zuhair, the team members were welcomed here by Health Minister Jonathan La Crette and other senior Ministry of Health officials during a ceremony on Monday.
Third Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Expatriates, Shahd Salah, said that the initiative is part of President Mahmoud Abbas’s efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Grenada and Palestine following the signing of an agreement in November last year when ambassador Linda Sobeh Ali presented her credentials to Governor General Dame Cecile La Grenade.
“Today we start the first medical program at St. George General Hospital in Grenada, in full cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Medical Association – Jerusalem Center, the Palestinian Embassy to the Caribbean, Range Developments, & Kamal Shehada Foundation, and the official Palestine Broadcasting Corporation,” she said
The mission comprises general surgeons, anaesthesiologists, ophthalmic surgeons, urologists, oncoplastic breast surgeons, traumatologists, and nurses.
“Our personnel are all highly qualified, registered, accredited, and have extensive experience in remote site medical, rescue, and security management. Our team of doctors is serving as volunteers in this mission in the spirit of solidarity through development,” Salah said.
“We look forward to a great partnership and continued collaboration with Grenada on health, education, communication, information technology, environment, agriculture, and other fields of common interest. We aim to focus on ways both Grenada and Palestine can work together on mutual issues of importance,” she added.
