Khadija Shaw scored twice for Jamaica in their 3-0 win over South Africa

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Khadija “Bunny” Shaw netted twice to lead Jamaica to a dominant 3-0 thrashing of South Africa in an international friendly here Friday.

Playing at the Montego Bay Sports Complex, Siobhan Wilson scored her first goal for her country in the 29th minute. Shaw added goals in the 55th and 83rd minutes as the home side comfortably won the first of two international friendlies.

A decent crowd was on hand to see the Jamaicans surge into the lead in the 29th minute when Wilson’s corner curled into the net through a crowd of players.

Shaw, who plays for Manchester City in the Women’s Super League (WSL), almost got on the scoresheet soon after when she rounded South Africa’s goalkeeper Dlamini, but her shot from just inside the 18-yard box hit the left upright.

She made amends for her miss in the second half, slotting in from three yards out following a beautiful build-up involving Atlanta Primus and Jody Brown to make it 2-0.

With just seven minutes left in regulation, Shawn grabbed her second of the night when she dribbled through the South African defense and shot the ball under the diving goalkeeper.

It was Shaw’s 57th goal for Jamaica. It marked a satisfying performance for coach Hubert Busby Jnr as Jamaica prepares for the start of World Cup qualifying and qualification for the Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup.
