KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Jamaica women’s national team will be under new management when they take part in the qualification rounds for the Concacaf W Gold Cup in the coming months.

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) announced on Friday that they will not renew the contract with incumbent Lorne Donaldson after it runs out on Saturday.

“The JFF wishes to place on record our thanks to Lorne for his services to Jamaica’s football over the years, especially making us proud at the recent Women’s World Cup, held in Australia and New Zealand,” a JFF news release stated.

“We are confident that he will have unlimited success in his future endeavors and wish him the best.”

The news release added that the JFF had started to put things in place to ensure a smooth transition, and a competent replacement was found to guide the Reggae Girlz through W Gold Cup qualification, which begins in less than a month.

Donaldson was assistant coach to Hue Menzies when the Girlz qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time four years ago in France, then took over when Vin Blaine resigned following a fall-out with squad members this past June.

Jamaica was the first English-speaking Caribbean nation to qualify for the Women’s World Cup, and they achieved the feat a second time and participated in the tournament held this past July and August.

The team was knocked out of direct qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and the Gold Cup in a two-legged playoff series earlier this week when Canada beat them 4-1 on aggregate.
