LONDON, CMC – Jamaican forward Ahkeem Rose gave Weymouth an early lead, but it proved in vain, and the relegation-threatened Terras ended up losing 3-2 at Chippenham Town in England’s six-tier National League South on Tuesday.

Weymouth led twice at Hardenhuish Park through a fifth-minute strike from the 24-year-old Rose and a 71st-minute goal from Bradley Ash, only for the Bluebirds to snatch victory at the death, courtesy of a stoppage-time penalty.

The defeat leaves Weymouth 23rd in the table, three points from safety, with eight matches remaining.

The match had started ideally for Weymouth, winning a free-kick on the left flank in three minutes. A right-footed delivery from Tom Blair found the run of Rose, and the 24-year-old turned the ball home from six yards to break the deadlock.

Deflated Weymouth boss Bobby Wilkinson described the defeat as “the lowest I’ve ever felt in football.”

The loss came only three days from the last-gasp victory for Weymouth against Welling United, in which Rose scored the winner after missing a penalty earlier in the match.

Off the field, fifth-tier National League side Yeovil Town has signed winger Callum Harriott on a short-term deal, with the option of an additional year.

The 29-year-old Guyana international began his career at Charlton Athletic and has also played for Colchester United, Reading, and most recently, League 2 club Gillingham, where he made four appearances this season.

Last year, Harriott was acquitted of raping a woman by a jury at Ipswich Crown Court, but he said his career had been shattered.

Harriott said he was “devastated” by the allegation against him after a night out in Colchester in November 2019.

The unnamed complainant, a woman in her 20s, claimed she was raped while she slept at Harriott’s former home in Colchester, hours after the pair met in a cocktail bar.

Harriott maintained the sex was consensual.

Following the unanimous not guilty verdict after a five-day trial, the footballer issued a statement on social media saying the damage his career had suffered was “irrecoverable.”
