LONDON, CMC – Discarded Jamaica winger Garath McCleary helped Wycombe Wanderers recover from a two-goal deficit to earn an entertaining 2-2 draw against 10-man Fleetwood in the English League 1 championship on Saturday.

A second-half penalty from McCleary and the first league goal from Richard Kone enabled Wycombe to make their numerical advantage count to secure a point at Adams Park after they plunged to 2-0 behind at half-time.

Fleetwood looked in control after Promise Omochere and Jayden Stockley scored first-half goals, but they suffered a significant setback on the stroke of half-time when Omochere was sent off.

Wycombe intensified their effort in an action-packed second half to try to get back in the match, and they won a penalty in the 53rd minute when a goal-bound strike from Chem Campbel deflected off an arm of Ben Heneghan of Fleetwood.

Fleetwood goalkeeper Jay Lynch stopped a stuttered kick from Luke Leahy at the bottom left of the goal.

A flurry of corners presented Wycombe with opportunities to cut the deficit. Still, another handball gifted the Chairboys, as the third-tier outfit is known, a second chance from the spot in the 62nd minute, and McCleary confidently hit his effort into the roof of the net.

Kone, a signing for the club in the January transfer window, was brought on during the half-time break, and he had a header ruled out for off-side. Still, he netted in the bottom right corner in the 83rd minute after working on a deflection from his initial shot at goal to bring the hosts level.

Wycombe are now 19th in the 24-team table on 31 points – only four points above the relegation zone.
