LONDON, Antigua and Barbuda international Rhys Browne notched his 14th goal as Woking remained third in England’s fifth-tier National League after inflicting more misery on bottom club Scunthorpe United with a 2-0 win at Glanford Park on Saturday.

Scunthorpe – nicknamed the Iron – suffered a ninth defeat in their last 11 league matches just days after being served with a winding-up petition.

Their fortunes worsened as Woking went ahead after just five minutes through 27-year-old forward Browne, who got in behind the home defence to score, but the visitors had to wait until three minutes from time to put the game to bed when Padraig Amond curled in.

In the Championship, Bermuda captain Nahki Wells helped Bristol City win their first match at Ashton Gate – their home ground – since October 12 with a 4-2 victory over Birmingham City, having lost the reverse fixture 3-0 in October.

Antoine Semenyo opened the scoring after 17 minutes before the 32-year-old Wells doubled the lead four minutes after Kal Naismith’s header over the top set the forward off in a foot race with Blues’ Kevin Long.

After beating the defender, Wells slotted the ball in off the post past goalkeeper John Ruddy for his ninth goal of the season.

A Troy Deeney penalty narrowed the deficit before half-time, but Mark Sykes scored twice after the break for the Robins, who are up to 17th place, and despite Reda Khadra pulling another goal back with 14 minutes to go, it could not stop the Blues falling to a fourth straight defeat.

Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson said: “We changed to 4-3-3 in the second half last week, and it worked for us, and we just decided that it would be beneficial for us to do that this week.

“When you consider all three forwards today they scored – Antoine and Nahki got one each in the first half, and Syksy got a couple in the second half … good for him.”

In League One, former Jamaica youth international Jevani Brown came off the bench to rescue a point for Exeter at St James’ Park against bottom club Forest Green Rovers with a stunning strike from the edge of the box – his 12th goal of the campaign.

Rovers started the second half well and went in front after 54 minutes when new signing Jordon Garrick, a 24-year-old Jamaican, tucked in at the back post from a low cross from Jamie Robson, another club debutant.

But Exeter hit back with 15 minutes remaining as the 28-year-old Brown, who enjoyed a loan spell at Forest Green when at his previous club Colchester United, lashed home to rescue a point for the 10th-placed hosts.

In another League One clash, Reggae Boyz target Chey Dunkley, a 30-year-old center-back, rounded out the scoring deep into injury time, rising at the back post to head home as Shrewsbury Town won 4-0 at second-bottom Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium.

Jordan Greenidge, a 23-year-old forward whose brother Reiss, 26, plays for Guyana’s Jaguars and National League club Maidstone United, bagged a brace on 37 and 89 minutes as 10th-placed Tonbridge Angels won 3-2 at St Albans City’s Clarence Park in the sixth-tier National League South.
