LONDON, CMC – Jamaica international Jonson Clarke-Harris threw Peterborough United a lifeline before goalkeeper Fyn Talley saved a pair of penalty kicks to earn the League 1 club a thrilling 5-4 penalty shoot-out against League 2 Salford City in their English FA Cup first-round replay on Tuesday.

Posh appeared to be seconds away from a stunning first-round exit at Moor Lane until substitute Clarke-Harris equalized in stoppage time at the end of extra time to leave the match tied 4-4 after 120 minutes of play.

The penalty shoot-out was equally full of drama as Ephron Mason-Clark and Jacob Wakeling had their penalty kicks saved, with Marcus Dackers blocked by Talley while Elliott Watt struck the post.

Talley became the hero when he saved Connor McLennan’s effort to send Posh to the second round.

Earlier, out-of-favour Jamaica defender Curtis Tilt headed hosts Salford in front in the fourth minute. Still, Posh hit back through Joel Randall in the 16th minute, Ephron Mason-Clark two minutes later, and Archie Collins in first-half stoppage time, and they were looking comfortable on 3-1 at half-time.

Tilt headed in his second of the night in the 54th minute, and defender Josh Knight turned the ball into his own goal in the 61st minute to put more pressure on the visitors, but neither side could break the other down enough, and scores were level 3-3 at full-time.

Stevie Mallan looked to have snatched a famous win for Salford when he scored in the 104th minute and left Posh chasing the game at 4-3 down, but Clarke-Harris sent it to penalties deep into stoppage time.

Talley was then the hero when he saved two spot-kicks to send Darren Ferguson’s side through to the second round.
