SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, CMC -The government of the Russian Federation has authorized the establishment of an embassy here following a request from the Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This approval comes after the Dominican Republic recently suspended its bilateral relations with Venezuela, where Russia’s previous diplomatic representation was based.
The decision is outlined in an order signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The order specifies that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will determine the number of staff for the new embassy in the Dominican Republic.
Diplomatic relations between Russia and the Dominican Republic were established in March 1945, and both nations have appointed ambassadors since 1991.
