SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, CMC – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with the National Emergency Commission and Civil Defense in the Dominican Republic, has launched a new initiative aimed at strengthening national capacities and enhancing resilience to disasters in critical infrastructure within the education and water supply sectors in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Haiti.
The project, titled “Strengthening the Capacities, Security, and Resilience of Critical Infrastructure in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Haiti,” was presented to key government and civil society stakeholders.
This initiative outlines a strategic approach for integrating disaster risk management into each country’s organizational structures and decision-making processes, instilling confidence in its effectiveness.
The project also aims to enhance capacities for knowledge management, methodological facilitation, institutionalization of tools, and improvement of coordination mechanisms, focusing on reducing vulnerability.
It emphasizes a comprehensive approach that includes cross-cutting, intersectoral, gender, and social inclusion perspectives, providing reassurance that all aspects are being considered.
