WASHINGTON, CMC – The Organization of American States (OAS) says it has signed an agreement on preparations for the 10th Summit of the Americas with the Government of the Dominican Republic that will bring together the Heads of State and Government of the Hemisphere in that Spanish-speaking Caribbean country in November 2025.

The OAS said the agreement was signed at its headquarters here on Friday by its Secretary General Luis Almagro and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic Roberto Álvarez.

“We assume a great responsibility with total commitment to achieving a successful Summit of the Americas, continuing with these critical processes for the region,” said Álvarez after the signing ceremony. “This is a small step but a very significant one.”

Almagro said the summits “represent unique opportunities to forge hemispheric consensus at the highest political level in search of solutions to the most pressing problems and challenges of the hemisphere, taking decisive actions in favor of our peoples.”

He said that “achieving consensus and sustainable results in the summits was one of the many challenges we assumed in this administration together with committed hosts, such as Peru and the United States,” countries that hosted the 8th and 9th Summits, respectively.

The OAS said the first Summit of the Americas was held in December 1994 in Miami, Florida.

It said the Dominica Republic summit will bring together the Heads of State and Governments of the member states of the hemisphere to “discuss political aspects, affirm common values and commit to concerted actions at the national and regional level, to face present and future challenges in their countries.”
