NASSAU, Bahamas, CMC – Police say they have seized more than US$15.3 million worth of illegal drugs and arrested seven people, including two Colombians, after a plane crashed in Spring Point, Acklins, last weekend.

The authorities said that the aircraft was attempting to land on the western section of Spring Point airport during the early hours of last Friday.

They said on arrival, they discovered the white and blue aircraft and that while no occupants were found at the scene, a search of the plane uncovered 762 kilograms (1,982 pounds) of cocaine valued at $15,240,000 and 25 pounds of hydroponic marijuana worth $50,000.

“Two persons were seen fleeing from the crash site. A search of the aircraft revealed 24 multi-colored packages of suspected cocaine and one crocus sack containing suspected marijuana,” Superintendent Shakiel Riley of the Royal Bahamas Police Force Drug Enforcement Unit told reporters.

He said US law enforcement officials collaborated with local authorities in the arrest of the seven suspects, including five Bahamians between the ages of 36 and 63.

Riley said they are assisting with ongoing investigations.
