GUYANA- Welding torch ignited a blaze that destroyed the market, says Guyana Fire service

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The Guyana Fire service on Sunday said that the blaze, which destroyed a large section of the Parika Market on the East Bank of Essequibo, was caused by a welding torch that fell and then ignited combustible material.

The fire service disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, and according to the Guyana Fire service, vehicles were immediately dispatched to the market to bring the blaze under control.

However, the entire building and contents were destroyed due to high winds.

There were no injuries.
