Multiple drivers face charges after being filmed engaging in hazardous road behavior

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The Traffic Department of the Guyana Police Force has dragged several errant road users before the Courts for various traffic offenses after those offenses were caught on camera.

On Wednesday, several drivers appeared before the Courts to answer charges of dangerous driving.

The Police Force noted that dangerous driving cases continue to be identified and advanced through the Courts, supported by the Safe Road Intelligent System (SRIS), which is a joint initiative between the National Data Management Authority (NDMA) and the Guyana Police Force.

The Safe Road Intelligent System enables evidence-based enforcement by capturing high-definition video recordings of traffic violations, which are reviewed by trained personnel and presented before the Courts. These offenses are not ticketable and must be prosecuted before a Magistrate, the Police Force noted.

The Police Force has stated that since its introduction, the system has significantly strengthened its ability to detect, document, and prosecute dangerous driving cases, with additional matters currently at various stages of review and preparation for Court.

With the country recording more than 135 road deaths since the start of the year, motorists are continually reminded to exercise greater caution on the country’s roadways.
