GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The Perth Scorchers, one of Australian cricket’s most decorated franchises, will take their trademark brand of relentless T20 cricket to the Caribbean after officially signing on for the upcoming ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League.
The three-time Big Bash League champions will compete as the Perth Scorchers XI in the third edition of the rapidly expanding international tournament, joining fellow Australian outfits Cricket Victoria and the Hobart Hurricanes in what is shaping as a genuine southern hemisphere invasion of Guyana.
For a competition already boasting champion teams from across the cricketing world, securing the Scorchers represents a coup.
Few franchises anywhere can match their record of sustained success, a winning culture forged in the West that has delivered BBL titles in three of the past four seasons.
The GSL, hosted in the cricketing hotbed of Guyana, continues to build momentum as a genuine global club championship.
And if there’s one man who understands the value of bringing champion teams together, it’s Sir Clive Lloyd. The West Indian legend, now chairing the GSL, welcomed the Scorchers’ arrival with characteristic enthusiasm.
“The Perth Scorchers represent excellence, professionalism, and a winning tradition that aligns perfectly with the vision of the Global Super League,” Lloyd said. Their involvement enhances the tournament’s quality and global appeal. We are proud to welcome them to Guyana and look forward to seeing their brand of cricket excite fans across the region and around the world.”
Back in Perth, the excitement is equally palpable. For WA Cricket CEO John Stephenson, the tournament offers more than just another trophy to chase; it’s a chance to fly the flag for Western Australian cricket on the international stage.
“We are extremely excited by the prospect of taking part in the third edition of the GSL,” Stephenson said. The Perth Scorchers represent everything that is uniquely Western Australian, and the GSL gives us the chance to showcase this at an international level. The tournament has gone from strength to strength since its inception, and we look forward to seeing how our team goes on the global stage.”
