WASHINGTON, CMC—The Joe Biden administration in the United States has extended congratulatory greetings to the people and governments of Belize, St. Kitts, and Nevis on their respective independence anniversaries.
US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken conveyed greetings on behalf of the United States to Belize on its 43rd independence anniversary and to St. Kitts and Nevis on its 41st independence anniversary.
“September 21 serves not only as an opportunity to recognize Belize’s independence but also to celebrate the strong partnership between the United States and Belize,” said Blinken on Saturday. “Our enduring bond is anchored by our shared commitments to democratic values, the rule of law, and respect for human rights for all.
“Our values-based partnership is exemplified in our joint work and in Belize’s noteworthy leadership in supporting humane migration management through the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection, as well as serving as President Pro Tempore of the Regional Conference on Migration,” he added.
Blinken said both countries’ respective and joint efforts to combat transnational crime and address climate change “help ensure future generations of our peoples have a safe, secure, and clean future.”
He said the US and Belize are “proud of our shared efforts to support generational, sustainable and responsible economic development” with the signing of the US$125 million Millennium Challenge Corporation Belize Compact, “a joint undertaking made possible because of our deep collaboration.”
“The United States congratulates Belize and Belizeans everywhere as they celebrate their 43rd Independence Day,” Blinken said.
On Thursday, St. Kitts and Nevis celebrated their National Day. The US Secretary of State said, “The enduring bond between the United States and St. Kitts and Nevis reinforces our common objectives for economic prosperity, resilient democratic institutions, and increased public safety.
“Our collaboration through various initiatives, such as the US-Caribbean Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis 2030 (PACC 2030) and the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI), is aiding in mitigating the climate crisis, enhancing access to clean energy, and bolstering security in St. Kitts and Nevis and the broader region,” he said.
“I look forward to further enhancing the collaboration between our two nations and wish you a joyous Independence Day,” Blinken added.
