Venezuelan nationals charged for illegal entry into Trinidad and Tobago

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) Monday said 12 Venezuelan nationals who entered the country illegally are expected to be charged with illegal entry and aiding and abetting after their vessel was intercepted last week carrying 20 passengers off the Icacos Coast.

The police said that Coast Guard officers intercepted the vessel carrying six males, six females, and eight children, as well as 32 buckets of cheese, 14 bullfinch birds, and four crocus bags containing meat.

It said that following investigations, officers received instructions to lay the charges against the 12 immigrants, while the eight children were released into the care of their immediate relatives.

Additional charges, including 14 counts of caging cage birds in captivity without a permit and undersized cages, are expected to be laid against one of the male immigrants.

The police did not indicate as to when those arrested are expected to appear in court.
