One person detained as Trinidad police seize drugs valued over TT$20 million

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) Friday said that one man has been arrested and more than TT$20 million (One TT dollar=US$0.16 cents) in narcotics seized following an operation on Thursday night.

The police said that a resident of Diego Martin, west of here, had been arrested following the seizure of the drugs with a combined street value of over TT$20.8 million.

It was reported that the operation, involving officers from the Northern Division Task Force, Area South, and a Specialist Unit of the TTPS, was conducted in the Western Division. Officers proceeded to a business place owned by the 39-year-old male suspect.

“A search of the premises was conducted, resulting in the discovery of quantities of cannabis and cocaine in a locked room. Further searches were then carried out at the Diego Martin home of the suspect, where more cannabis and cocaine were discovered. “

The police said that among the discoveries were “five packets of pure cocaine with a combined weight of 5.62 kilogrammes and an estimated street value of TT$7,833,830.40, and a total of 157 packets of Colombian ‘Creepy’ cannabis, with a combined weight of 118.58 kilogrammes and an estimated street value of TT$13,013,799.26.

“The suspect was arrested in connection with the finds,” the police added.
