Trinidad-based platform wins prestigious global award
A local Trinidad platform earns international recognition with a global award

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – The Network of Rural Women Producers Trinidad and Tobago (NRWPTT) says it will nominate three digital projects to the World Summit Awards (WSA) this year, after a homegrown digital platform, Local TT, was selected as one of the 40 global winners for 2024.

The WSA is a global initiative that recognises local digital solutions making a positive impact on society. Winners are selected for their alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), which showcase how technology can drive change, inclusivity, and empowerment.

The NRWPTT said that it has submitted nominations in the Health and Well-Being, Heritage and Culture, and Business and Commerce categories for this year, noting “together, these nominees embody the spirit of WSA, digital innovation with purpose, rooted in creativity and committed to real social impact”.

It stated that UpliftAppTT is an immersive, peer-to-peer mental health platform that breaks down stigma and creates safe spaces for healing. At the same time, RoamReality is an AR-powered experience that brings traditions and stories to life, preserving culture for future generations.

GreenWave Technologies is described as a groundbreaking solution merging technology and sustainability to advance eco-friendly commerce.

The NRWPTT stated that at the WSA Global Congress 2024, “Local TT”, a homegrown digital platform, was selected as one of the 40 global winners in the category of Government and Citizen Engagement.

Developed by Emeka Farrier, Aaron Williams, and Jeanine Brandt, “Local TT” empowers citizens across Trinidad and Tobago to take an active role in governance.

“Through the platform, residents can report public infrastructure issues in real time, from potholes and broken streetlights to drainage concerns. By crowdsourcing this data, “Local TT” creates a transparent and efficient system that helps authorities respond faster, allocate resources better, and foster stronger accountability,” the NRWPTT added.

It stated that this global recognition underscores the producers’ commitment to technical innovation, their local impact on society, and their contribution to the UN SDGs.

“Plus, it positions Trinidad and Tobago as a leader in using digital solutions to improve everyday life while driving sustainable development,” the NRWPTT said.
