PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC—The Ministry of National Security has confirmed that 11 out of an expected 14 citizens of this country were deported from the United States and arrived early Friday.
The Ministry received advanced notice from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the United States, according to a statement on Saturday.
The Ministry said earlier this week that the local civil aviation authority applied for and granted an international commercial air transport permit for a chartered flight to facilitate the deportees’ return.
“Upon arrival, 11 individuals consisting of 10 males and one female were met by the local immigration authorities and processed per established protocols. However, the lone female was detained by law enforcement due to two local outstanding warrants.
The Ministry of National Security says the relevant law enforcement agencies are working closely with their US counterparts regarding the repatriated nationals.
“All necessary measures have been implemented to monitor these individuals as they reintegrate into society.”
The Ministry stated that the government remains committed to upholding national security and public safety while ensuring due process is followed “by our laws.”
