TRINIDAD-Duke committed to stand trial on sex-related charges

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – The former president of the Public Service Association (PSA), Watson Duke, has been committed to stand trial on a 2016 rape charge and charges of indecent assault.

Magistrate Marissa Gomez committed Duke, the political leader of the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) in Tobago, and was granted TT$250,000 (ne TT dollar=US$0.16 cents bail).

Duke, a member of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), who has maintained his innocence, is accused of allegedly accused of committing acts of serious indecency against the woman on four occasions between January and April 2016 at the headquarters of the PSAin and having sexual intercourse with the woman against her will on May 10, 2016, at a hotel.

According to the charges, the alleged victim was an employee of the union.

When he first appeared in court in 2016, Duke told the media he was “innocent” and claimed he was being “set up.”
