CAL dismisses reports about CEO being sent on leave

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – The state-owned Caribbean Airlines, on Wednesday, denied that its chief executive officer, Garvin Medera, had been sent on administrative leave.

“Caribbean Airlines advises that the information currently circulating regarding the “Leadership Transition and Stability and Growth Strategy in the public domain is false.

“This information did not come from Caribbean Airlines nor any other authorised source,” the airline said in a brief statement.

Earlier, a statement had claimed that Medera had been sent on administrative leave “effective immediately, pending the outcome of an internal review.”

The message also claimed that the airline’s Chief Operating Officer, Nirmala Ramai, would take over as acting chief executive post until further notice.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar issued an ultimatum to the airline’s management, telling them to “sort out the mess” at the airline in two years or find a new job.
