Guyana Men’s TT squad poised for Caribbean challenge in Santo Domingo
L-R: The Guyana men’s team of Shemar Britton, Niran Bissu, Elishaba Johnson, and Jonathan Van Lange will head into action at the Caribbean Table Tennis Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, CMC – Guyana’s senior men’s table tennis team is ready to serve up a fight at the Caribbean Table Tennis Championships here, with four players drawn into a highly competitive group stage in the men’s singles competition.

The Guyanese contingent, comprising Niran Bissu, Shemar Britton, Jonathan Van Lange, and Elishaba Johnson, will each face three preliminary round-robin matches as they battle for a place in the knockout rounds.

Bissu headlines the action in Group 13, where he will lock horns with DeAndre Calderon of Saint Lucia, Isaac Vila of the Dominican Republic, and Mark Dowell of Barbados. It’s a tightly contested group where every point will matter.

Britton, drawn in Group 12, is set for a stern test against Rafael Cabrera og Dominican Republic, Manie Eleuthere of Saint Lucia, and Gabriel Quiros of Costa Rica.

Meanwhile, Van Lange will need to be at his sharpest in Group 14, squaring off against Abit Tejada of the Dominican Republic, Sebastian Aviles of Costa Rica, and Jadbiel Torres from Puerto Rico.

Johnson rounds out the lineup in Group 10, where he faces Ricardo Gatica of Guatemala, Macahnie Hazelwood of St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Azizi Johnson from Jamaica.

Only the top performer from each group will advance to the knockout stage, raising the stakes for every match.

In a social media update, the Guyana Table Tennis Association confirmed that the women’s team will not compete at this year’s Caribbean Championships.

The decision is part of a deliberate transition phase aimed at bridging the experience gap at the senior level.

However, Guyanese female talent will still shine on the international stage. Jasmine Billingy and Samara Sukhai are set to represent the nation at the South American Youth Games in Panama during the second week of April.

They will be joined by youth standouts Malachi Moore and Kayden Meusa. The Caribbean Championships run through April 16 and serve as a critical benchmark in the regional calendar.
