ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – A talented squad of 14 young swimmers has been selected to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the 39th CARIFTA Aquatics Championships, set to take place in Fort de France, Martinique, from April 3-8.

The Antigua and Barbuda Swimming Federation (ABSF) announced the team, which features a strong contingent of the nation’s top youth talent, including former Junior Sportswoman of the Year, Ellie Shaw, alongside Madison MacMillan, Anya De Gannes, and Alessandro Bazzoni. Head coach Wayne Mitchell will lead the team.

The squad boasts depth across all age categories. In the Girls 11-12 division, Kaylee Warner and Alyssa Watkins will lead the charge, while Christopher Walter will be the nation’s sole male representative in the Boys 11-12 category.

The 13-14 age group sees Anya De Gannes and Keziah Joseph competing for the twin-island nation in the girls’ division. Jamie Tranter and N’yriq Weste will join Alessandro Bazzoni in a strong Boys 13-14 contingent.

The oldest age category features a powerhouse lineup. Ellie Shaw, the former Junior Sportswoman of the Year, will swim alongside Madison MacMillan and Selah Wiltshire in the Girls 15-17 division.

Meanwhile, Reuben Edwards, Jai Sindhi, and Espriit Shaw are set to fly the country’s flag in the Boys 15-17 events.

Supporting head coach Mitchell will be assistant coach Nelson Molina Fojo. The team’s management includes Lisa Isaac-MacMillan as Team Manager, with Ayedele Warner and Daniela Casmiro serving as chaperones. Absatou “Afi” Williams will represent Antigua and Barbuda as the technical official.

The CARIFTA Aquatics Championships is a prestigious annual event that has served as a premier platform for showcasing young swimming talent from across the Caribbean since its inception in 1985.

This year’s edition will feature stiff competition, with 22 other countries expected to participate, including regional powers such as The Bahamas, Barbados, the Cayman Islands, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, and Trinidad & Tobago.
