KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, CMC – Police have charged a 22-year-old man with the murder of his brother, Sheldon “Butterz” Welch, 27, whose dismembered body was found in the Morne Garu mountain, north-east of here, on Friday night.
The authorities said the body had been cut into five pieces and placed in a pit.
Police said Javid Dasilva, aka Shadique, a fisherman, had been charged with the murder.
The authorities are also likely to lay charges against one 15-year-old, who is now assisting in the investigations.
Police said Welch might have been killed last Friday, the same day he was reported missing, and a police team went to the mountain in Georgetown, where the body was discovered in the pit.
Media reports said that Welch and his brother had had an abusive relationship, which further deteriorated when Dasilva’s girlfriend moved into the house on one occasion, the brothers argued because of an allegation that Welch had been spying on Dasilva’s girlfriend when she was in the shower.
The reports said that knapsacks and duffle bags were used to transport the dismembered body to the mountain. The Police are appealing to persons with information to contact “any police station or police officer they are comfortable speaking with.
“All information received would be treated confidentially,” Police said, adding that investigations are ongoing.
