Port of Spain, CMC, Chairman Patrick Werleman said this year’s annual general meeting of the Caribbean Regional Anti-Doping Organisation (RADO) on Saturday and Sunday in Trinidad would be crucial.

Delegates from the 18 Caribbean RADO member countries and representatives from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) will meet over the two days to discuss matters pertinent to the movement in the Caribbean.

“We have some major activities on the horizon,” Werleman said. “For example, the WADA code compliance questionnaire, which requires all member countries to analyze and evaluate their anti-doping programs, will soon be due.

“Based on this questionnaire, WADA will conclude whether a country is compliant with the requirements of the world anti-doping .”

Delegates attending the meeting will also participate in a capacity-building workshop focusing on critical areas such as the anti-doping administrative management system (ADAMS), compliance and operational independence, risk assessment, and test distribution planning.

RADO officials will also use the opportunity of the meeting to work with the various stakeholders involved in organizing the Commonwealth Youth Games to be staged in the two-island republic from August 4 to 11.

The Games will feature athletics, beach volleyball, cycling, netball, rugby sevens, swimming, and triathlon.

Werleman said RADO was highly grateful to T&T for hosting its AGM after the United States Virgin Islands had to withdraw from that role.

“We truly appreciate the efforts made to bring this meeting to fruition,” he said. “This shows that T&T – the government, the minister of sport, and the T&T Olympic Committee – all value Clean Sport!”

The AGM will be held under the theme of “Clean Sport.”
