KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says the authorities are working to remove mold from the operating theatres at the island’s largest hospital – the Kingston Public Hospital, in a bid to reopen the facilities.
Tufton, who spoke on local radio on Friday, said the malfunctioning air conditioning system that also forced the closure of the four operating theatres has been fixed.
However, he said mold remediation work continues to ensure infection control standards are met before reopening. Based on this, surgeries have been relocated to other facilities across the Corporate Area.
He assured that a new plant for the Kingston Public Hospital should alleviate some of the infrastructure challenges staff and patients face. However, the construction of the facility is still in the planning stage.
