JAMAICA- Tourism minister calls for a strategy to safeguard marine resources

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has called on stakeholders in the tourism industry to adopt a proactive strategy in safeguarding the ocean and its marine resources.

Speaking at a recent lecture series hosted by the Caribbean Maritime University, Bartlett made the statement in light of the ongoing threats to the sustainability of these natural assets.

Bartlett said there needs to be “a seriousness of intent, purpose and action” to address activities that harm marine resources.

He said this commitment to sustainable behavior and practices is necessary to help preserve the benefits of the marine and coastal ecosystems, enabling billions of people’s survival globally.
