Jamaica opposition demands apology from JLP manager
Jamaica’s main opposition calls for public retraction and apology from JLP campaign manager

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The campaign chairman of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), Dr Christopher Tufton, has been given a deadline to retract a recording of a retired legislator from the main opposition People’s National Party (PNP), K.D.Knight, that was played at a mass meeting of the JLP on Sunday.

In the recording, Knight was heard suggesting he has no confidence in PNP President Mark Golding’s ability to lead Jamaica.

The law firm Knight, Junior & Samuels has written to Tufton, stating that the recording was manipulated and has demanded a public retraction of the recording by 11 am (local time) on Friday.

The letter says the retraction and apology must be agreed on by both legal teams, sent to all media houses, and published on the Jamaica Labour Party’s social media pages.

It says a retraction could help mitigate the damage caused to Knight, but would not waive his right to take legal action.

The law firm says it is prepared to negotiate a settlement with Tufton’s attorneys.
