KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The police have detained a man for questioning in connection with the series of bomb threats that targeted schools across the island on Thursday and Friday.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey, the. Man was picked up late Friday during a police operation after bomb threats at 71 institutions, mainly schools, were affected.

A hospital and a court building were also among those targeted on Friday.

Bailey said the Jamaica Constabulary Force continues to lead the multi-agency investigation, which includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

He stressed that the JCF, with support from its law enforcement partners, will investigate all reports received, as every threat is treated as serious until proven otherwise.

Bailey has called on the public to take all necessary precautions to protect themselves but stressed that there’s no need for panic, as all the evidence gathered so far indicates that the threats are a hoax.
