KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Former Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL) director Hugh Croskery and his daughter, Sarah Meany, were among three people taken into police custody following early-morning search-and-seizure operations linked to the long-running investigation into the collapse of the investment firm.
The Financial Investigations Division (FID) said the coordinated operation was carried out at about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday at four locations under warrants targeting former directors of SSL.
According to investigators, Croskery was located at a Wickham Avenue address, where electronic devices and documents were seized. He was taken into custody on reasonable suspicion of breaches of the Bank of Jamaica Act, the Securities Act, the Larceny Act, and the Banking Services Act.
Searches were also conducted at the Kempshot residence of Croskery’s daughter, Meany, where investigators recovered SSL-related documents and multiple electronic devices. Meany was taken into custody based on her direct connection to activities at SSL and on reasonable suspicion of breaches of the Bank of Jamaica Act, the Securities Act, the Larceny Act, and the Banking Services Act.
A third person, Dermot Meany, was also taken into custody during the operation in relation to a breach of the Firearms Act. Police said he is a licensed firearm holder but was found to have ammunition exceeding the legally permitted amount.
The operation was executed by a joint team from the FID, the Constabulary Financial Unit (CFU), the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC), and the St James Police Division, with support from the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA).
Meanwhile, former SSL chief executive officer Zachary Harding has reported to the FID and C-TOC and is being questioned in the presence of his attorney. The questioning relates to reasonable suspicion of breaches of the Bank of Jamaica Act, the Securities Act, the Banking Services Act, and the Companies Act.
Investigators said all evidence seized is undergoing forensic examination and that assessments are continuing. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
