Jamaica Constabulary Force investigates over 300 drug smuggling attempts at courier companies following seizure of cocaine at FedEx facility destined for Canada

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The head of the Firearm and Narcotics Investigation (FNID) within the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Senior Superintendent Patrae Rowe, has disclosed that a probe is underway into over 300 drug smuggling attempts at courier companies over the last two years.

According to Rowe, the latest probe was on Tuesday, when the police, during an operation at the FedEx building here, seized one kilogram of cocaine with an estimated street value of J$600,000 (One Jamaica dollar=US$0.008 cents) and arrested two men.

Rowe says the suspects, using fake names, attempted to smuggle the drug, destined for Canada, through FedEx.

The police were reportedly tipped off, which in turn led FNID to place the facility under surveillance.

The men are expected to be charged soon.

Rowe says drug smuggling through courier companies remains a challenge for the police, as there have been over 350 similar cases at multiple entities over the last two years.

He further notes that seizures are now occurring almost weekly. The FNID boss says there’s a need for greater collaboration with courier company operators.

Since the start of the year, Rowe says FNID has seized over $77 million worth of drugs. The division has also assisted in the seizure of 102 firearms since the start of 2026.
