KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC—Prime Minister Andrew Holness began a four-day visit to India on Monday, saying that he is looking forward to expanding and deepening the cooperation between the two countries.

Holness, the first Jamaican prime minister to visit India, said the two countries have enjoyed diplomatic relations since 1962.

“Our two countries have cooperated in several areas, including education and training, science and technology, business, and infrastructure development. I look forward to discussions with Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) as we seek to expand and deepen our cooperation for the mutual benefit of our peoples,” Holness wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The Hindustan Times said Prime Minister Holness would meet with his Indian counterpart on Tuesday. After that, they are expected to finalize agreements to expand cooperation in various areas.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said Holness’s visit is expected to bolster bilateral relations, enhance economic cooperation, and solidify the longstanding bonds between the two countries.

Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister Kamina Johnson Smith, Indian-born Jamaican businessman Kenny Benjamin, and former West Indies and Jamaica cricketer Chris Gayle are accompanying Prime Minister Holness.
