KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Academic staff at the University of Technology (UTECH) have launched a sit-in after their March salaries were not paid on time.
The action follows a Thursday morning Zoom meeting with the academic staff union, where members agreed to suspend all academic activities until the issue is resolved.
In a statement, the union said lecturers would begin an immediate sit-in and continue the protest until all outstanding March salaries are paid.
Salaries were due on Wednesday, but remain outstanding.
In a memo, Acting Vice-President and Chief Business and Finance Officer Maxine Gordon attributed the delay to unresolved technical issues.
It remains unclear when payments will be made.
