KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA), on Monday, described as “fraudulent” a statement circulating in the public domain indicating that an agreement had been reached for a 50 per cent salary increase and immediate incremental payments for all teachers.
“This information is false and does not represent any official communication or position of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association. Although the document bears the JTA logo, it is fraudulent and did not originate from the Association. The JTA strongly condemns the actions of those responsible for creating and distributing this misleading correspondence,” the JTA said in a statement.
“Please exercise caution and refrain from sharing unverified information. Negotiations with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service are ongoing. The president of the JTA will, in due course, update the membership using the appropriate channels,” it added.
The JTA noted that negotiations with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service are ongoing and that an update will be provided in due course through the appropriate channels.

Last month, JTA president Mark Malabver, addressing the reopening of the Association’s western office in St James, said there was a need for fair salaries and improved conditions of service for teachers, describing the situation as a fight for social justice rather than merely a financial negotiation.
