KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The Jamaican government says it has been invited to participate in the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) ‘FSRB Jurisdictions Guest Initiative’.

Finance and Public Service Minister, Fayval Williams, in a statement Friday, said that the invitation had been extended by FAFT’s president, Elisa de Anda Madraz, and that Kingston will be sending delegations to three consecutive plenary meetings and related technical working sessions, beginning with the FATF Plenary scheduled for October 20–24, in France.

Williams also said that the invitation is “a strong vote of confidence in Jamaica’s ongoing financial reforms and a significant opportunity to contribute to global policy direction on anti-money laundering and counter-financing of terrorism (AML/CFT)”

“Our journey to this point has not been without challenges. Just a few years ago, Jamaica was listed by the FATF as a jurisdiction under increased monitoring. Through sustained will, inter-governmental collaboration, and targeted legislative reforms over many years, we successfully addressed all identified strategic deficiencies and exited the ‘grey list’.

“This invitation to participate in the FSRB Guest Initiative reflects the international community’s continued recognition of our progress,” Williams added.

Jamaica was officially removed from the FATF grey list in June 2024, and the European Parliament also recently voted to remove Jamaica from Europe’s list of high-risk nations.

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness said this marks a significant step forward for the country and the wider region.

In a post on X, Holness said Jamaica had been actively advocating for such a decision, one which reflects the reality of the hard work the country has undertaken to strengthen its financial systems.
