KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) says it will be providing oversight of the police investigation into an incident that occurred at a party held at the Mas Camp venue in the Corporate Area where at least one off-duty police officer was involved in the alleged assault of a couple.

INDECOM says it has conducted a preliminary assessment of the incident based on concerns raised about the possible involvement of members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

Initial indications of INDECOM’s assessment are that several civilians, as well as at least one off-duty police officer, were involved in the allegation of assault.

INDECOM says its mandate does not allow for the investigation of any civilian. Still, the Commission says it will take all necessary steps to investigate the role of the identified cop in the alleged incident.

It says the JCF will conduct a thorough investigation based on the number of civilians involved, with INDECOM supervising and supervising.

According to the Commission, this approach allows for an inquiry into the roles of both civilian and law enforcement personnel.
