Jamaica Electoral Office to open Saturdays for easier voter ID collection

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) says starting this Saturday, constituency offices will be open to facilitate the collection of Voter ID Cards, especially as the announcement of the date for the upcoming general election nears.

The EOJ says the offices will open to the public from 10 AM to 4 PM (local time).

The EOJ says opening hours have been extended to facilitate registered electors who may not be able to collect their voter ID card during the regular opening hours.

According to Director of Elections Glasspole Brown, the move is to both make it convenient for electors to collect their voter ID cards and to facilitate the seamless casting of ballots on Election Day.

Brown is appealing to all electors who have not yet collected their renewed voter ID card to take advantage of this opportunity.

While the date for the general election is yet to be announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness, it is constitutionally due by September.

The election is expected to be a straight fight between the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), which is seeking a third consecutive term in office, and the main opposition People’s National Party (PNP).

In the last general election held on September 3, 2020, the JLP won 49 of the 63 seats in the National Assembly.
