HALLANDALE BEACH, Florida, CMC – Saffie Joseph continued his march towards another Gulfstream Park title when he logged a double on Sunday’s 10-race card at the southeastern United States oval.

The 34-year-old Barbadian captured the US$19 000 race one with a 4-1 choice, Hard to Fathom, and followed up in the $51 000 race nine with favorite Rosie’s Halo.

Fresh from a successful defense of his winter title, Joseph leads the summer meet with 12 wins from 42 rides, four clear of Jose Francisco D’Angelo.

Juan Alvarado and Antonio Sano have four wins, with Hall-of-Famer Todd Pletcher one back on three wins from 18 outings.

Jockey Leonel Reyes handed Joseph his first win of the afternoon when he guided three-year-old bay colt Hard to Fathom to a gate-to-wire victory over the three-year-olds and upward.

Going a mile and 70 yards, Hard to Fathom survived a bump at the start with a 10-1 chance Doc Ballard before out-dueling his rival in fractions of 24.82 seconds for the quarter and 49.39 for the half.

Enzo’s World, a 30-1 longshot, came from off the pace but was denied by Hard to Fathom inside the final furlong.

Reyes also gave Joseph the second success of the day when he combined with four-year-old bay filly Rosie’s Halo to trounce the three-year-old and upward fillies and mares by six lengths in a mile trip.

Two-to-one choice Selina Kyle produced the early splits before Reyes engaged at the quarter pole to pick up the running and send Rosie’s Halo clear.
