WINNIPEG, Manitoba, CMC: Shavon Belle won Wednesday’s feature at Assiniboia Downs as part of a double, while fellow Barbadian Damario Bynoe and Jamaican Chavion Chow also rode braces to take some of the spotlights on the seven-race program.
The 29-year-old Belle partnered with favorite Canyouhearmerunnin to win the CAN$50 000 Osiris Stakes in race two, stunning the two-year-olds by 8-½ lengths in a 5-½ furlong sprint.
Canyouhearmerunnin sparred briefly with 2-1 choice Justlemmeeatem – with another Barbadian Renaldo Cumberbatch aboard – through the first quarter before pulling away impressively to win in one minute, 06.18 seconds.
Belle’s second win of the day came in another 5-½ furlong sprint in race five when he produced a gate-to-wire effort with another favorite, Tipsy At the Bar, to trounce the three-year-old and upward fillies and mares by two lengths.
Bynoe, meanwhile, opened and closed the program with handsome wins. In race one over six furlongs, he powered 11-1 choice Damn the Torpedoes to a half-length victory over the three-year-olds and upward, after stalking with the five-year-old bay mare and then launching a late bid.
His second win came over 5-½ furlongs in the day’s finale, bringing favorite Margot’s Girl from off the pace to get the better of the three-year-old and upward fillies and mares by half-length.
Not to be left out, Chow tasted success in race four over seven furlongs when he combined with favorite Aramon to edge the three-year-old and upward fillies and mares by three-quarters of a length.
The pair dueled through the half with a 6-1 chance Living Sky before carving out a lead on the final turn and staving off a late bid from Annakhozana, with Barbadian rider Antonio Whitehall aboard.
Chow returned to the winners’ enclosure in another seven-furlong trip in race six for the three-year-olds and upward, this time-saving ground with a 6-1 bet Runaway Hurricane before edging Mourvedre in a stretch duel.
