PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti, CMC – The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) says more than 35 political parties and other stakeholders were registered during the first week of the registration process as Haiti prepares for elections that were last held here in 2016.
The CEP said that the registration process, which began on March 2, would continue until March 12 in accordance with Article 143 of the Electoral Decree of December 1st, 2025.
The CEP said it is calling on other parties to register by this week to participate actively in the electoral process.
The CEP also announced that the recruitment process for Electoral Register Agents (ADRE) has been extended until March 11, 2026, and that interested individuals are invited to complete the online application on the CEP.
Late last month, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimè, who was attending the 50th regular meeting of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders in St. Kitts and Nevis, told the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) that he remains confident that elections will take place by year’s end.
“We are heading to the elections, we have found an agreement between Haitians, and we have decided that we are moving forward.
“Elections will be held as soon as we get all the security necessary. We are expecting that by the end of the year, we will be ready to host the first round of the elections,” he told CMC.
The last presidential election took place in 2016 when Jovenel Moise was elected to office, but he was assassinated at his private residence overlooking the capital in July 2021.
Since then, an interim government has been in office, and since April 2024, Haiti has held no national elections.
Over the last weekend, Prime Minister Fils-Aimé convened his entire government together for a working session, providing an opportunity for the new ministers to discuss the strategic priorities of the public administration.
A statement noted that the meeting allowed the prime minister to set a clear course with particular attention being paid to the country’s macroeconomic situation and the management of public finances.
