Election candidate faces court alongside another man

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Two men, including a candidate of the newly formed opposition, We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, were on Monday charged in connection with a physical confrontation over the last weekend.

WIN candidate Bryan Max Mackintosh and social media personality Mikhail Rodrigues, known as ‘Guyanese Critic,’ were involved in an altercation that stemmed from a money collection dispute involving WIN presidential candidate Azruddin Mohamed.

Police said that both men have been cooperating with investigators.

Both men appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, and Rodrigues was granted GUY$50,000 (One Guyana dollar=US$0.004 cents) bail, while Mackintosh was placed on GUY$25,000 bail.

Mackintosh, represented by Attorney Dawn Cush, was charged with using abusive language towards Rodrigues’ colleague, OC Rogers, and provoking both Rodrigues and Rogers with the intent to insult or annoy them during an incident on August 23 at Laluni Street, Georgetown.

The case has been adjourned to September 15.

The confrontation unfolded early Saturday morning after Max, a prominent spokesperson for the WIN party, called into Rodrigues’ morning live show and stated that he was collecting money for Azruddin. Rodrigues then invited Max to the studio; Max showed up, during which an expletive-laden and physical altercation took place.

The incident was captured live, and the video was widely circulated on social media.
