LONDON, CMC—Guyana’s President, Dr. Irfaan Li, has launched a new publication providing a holistic overview of the causes and challenges surrounding food security in the Caribbean and the wider global community.

Titled “Achieving Global Food Security: The Caribbean Experience and Beyond,” Ali launched the book at the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford on Saturday.

In the publication, Ali, who is spearheading the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) 25 by 25 ambitious plan to reduce its food import bill by 25 percent by 2025, explores several strategic policy recommendations to mitigate the issue of food security at a time when the Caribbean is plagued with skyrocketing food and fertilizer prices and displaced labor.

The book presents an innovative pathway to achieving freedom from hunger by capitalizing on the region’s comparative advantages and potential for agricultural investment.

Published in collaboration with World Scientific Publishing, the book is a valuable research resource for scholars and professionals pursuing knowledge and solutions on food security, international development, and Caribbean studies.

The book also includes a chapter highlighting Guyana’s ongoing and future initiatives.

Renowned professor and UNESCO chair Amitav Acharya praised the book as a significant, necessary, and timely contribution to one of the most pressing global issues.
