GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – President Dr. Irfaan Ali says his government is working towards implementing a new driver’s license renewal system.

On Saturday, Ali said the new system will be digital and join other new digital systems, from automated airport processes to payment ventures.

“We are now working to be among the first 10% of countries to have digital license renewal portals.

“(The portals are) like kiosks (or) ATMs. We will have it across the country, and you scan your license, use your debit or credit card, and renew your license in a mall or a Police station,” Ali said.

The president explained that such a system is meant to help make key services more efficient while removing any human biases or lapses.

He also noted that the government wants to introduce more digital services and is doing so through various digital tools and equipment. A digital school is already being developed, and airport processes are being digitalized.

Ali also noted that a digital wallet or payment platform will be introduced.
