GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC—The Guyana Oil and Gas Energy Chamber (GOGEC) on Friday welcomed the signing of the enhanced Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Guyana and the United States, saying it “underscores the strong and enduring partnership between the two nations.”

Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Hugh Todd and the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed the MoU on Thursday. The two countries will work closely to tackle transnational crime and deter drug trafficking in the Caribbean region.

More importantly, there will be stronger information-sharing channels on synthetic drug detection, transnational organized crime investigations and prosecutions, and military-to-military cooperation.

In a statement, GOGEC president Manniram Prashad said the agreement is built on shared values, mutual trust, and a commitment to regional peace and security.

“As Guyana continues to develop its oil and gas sector, this enhanced MoU is very timely and is a crucial step in ensuring stability and protecting Guyana’s territorial integrity. GOGEC applauds the US government’s reaffirmed support for Guyana’s sovereignty and its commitment to addressing security threats, transnational crime, human trafficking, and money laundering.

“Furthermore, GOGEC recognizes ExxonMobil as a responsible corporate citizen whose investments and local content initiatives have enhanced Guyana’s economic growth.”

GOGEC said that a secure and stable environment is essential for continued progress, and “this MoU will contribute significantly to the long-term success of Guyana’s energy sector.

“GOGEC remains committed to working alongside government and industry stakeholders to advance Guyana’s sustainable energy future and economic resilience,” the statement said.
