
GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – ExxonMobil Guyana announced on Wednesday that, along with its contractors, it has invested an estimated US$2.9 billion with Guyanese businesses since operations commenced in 2015.
Additionally, the oil and gas company stated that US$419 million has been spent in the first half of this year on direct business with 1,800 local vendors. The figures underscore the company’s commitment to local content development, with significant investments in local businesses, workforce training, and community development initiatives.
The company said that as of mid-2025, more than 6,200 Guyanese have been employed by ExxonMobil Guyana and its contractors, accounting for 70 percent of the workforce, with one in three employees being women.
It said 1,800 Guyanese are currently working offshore. “We are proud of the progress we’ve made in building local talent. Seeing more Guyanese take on key roles in the oil-and-gas industry is a clear sign that our commitment to capacity building is working,” ExxonMobil Guyana said in a statement, quoting its President, Alistair Routledge.
According to the company, Guyana’s oil-and-gas employees have benefited from receiving over 370,000 hours of leadership, technical, and professional training, as well as training in health, safety, and security.
“ExxonMobil Guyana’s internship programme is also yielding results. Of the inaugural class, five interns have already been hired by the company. The 2025 internship program is currently underway, continuing to provide valuable career opportunities for young Guyanese professionals.”
Additionally, the company stated that this year also marked a significant milestone with the commencement of in-country fabrication services at Vreed-en-Hoop Shore Base Inc. (VEHSI), including the fabrication of quad joints and Pipeline End Terminations (PLETs), a significant step in supporting the development of local industrial capabilities.
Furthermore, the company announced that, in collaboration with the Stabroek Block co-venturers and the government, it will support the Guyana Technical Training College Inc. (GTTCI), which is preparing to welcome the first cohort of students to be fully trained locally, starting in October 2025.
